Garnet Filter Media

Garnet sand is a chemically inert high-density media used as a support layer in a multi-media filtration system. Garnet is a naturally occurring gem mineral with uniform physical, chemical, hardness, friability, and micro-structure characteristics, which provide the essential properties for water and industrial chemical filtration processes.

Applications for garnet sand range from small, single-media filters to technically advanced multimedia commercial and industrial systems for water & effluent treatment. Garnet is the most suitable filter media for filtering corrosive effluents & is recommended for use in high-velocity dual media filters in combination with Anthracite/Manganese Green Sand. KALIMATI® garnet sand is available in many different sizes & is AWWA B100 and NSF 61 compliant.

Garnet is well known for its hardness and durability. It has a high specific gravity as well as its chemical and abrasive resistance making garnet an ideal filter media. This product occurs both in large sizes conducive to support beds and in smaller sizes for cap beds and is dense enough to allow faster back flushing. Products meet or exceed the NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for Drinking Water System Components, as well as AWWA Standard B100-01.

Advantages:
1. High specific gravity provides a unique filter design.
2. Garnet, in combination with other filter media provides higher flow rates, higher loading & better filtration.
3. The high hardness of garnet reduces attrition & extends the lifetime of the filter bed.
4. Garnet is an excellent support bed for other high-density media.
5. The layers above the garnet sand are lighter in weight (per cubic foot) and therefore they lift during backwash and dislodge the "floc" cleaning of the filter media.
